VeriFish team gathered in Tromsø last 17 and 18 of September, 2024, for a highly productive two-day meeting hosted by NOFIMA. The meeting focused on key areas of the project, including the development of the sustainability indicator framework and the creation of media products and factsheets to engage consumers and stakeholders. A significant highlight of the event was a discussion with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC), which provided valuable insights into global seafood marketing and sustainability practices.
Over the course of two days, the VeriFish team collaborated on essential topics related to the future of sustainable seafood. A primary focus was laying the foundation for the Sustainability Indicator Framework, which will play a critical role in communicating verifiable information about seafood sustainability to a broad audience, including consumers, stakeholders, and the aquaculture industry.
The team also dedicated significant time to brainstorming and designing media products and factsheets. These tools are crucial for effectively communicating the sustainability of seafood products. Through lively discussions and collaboration, the team worked on ways to make these materials both engaging and informative, ensuring they meet the needs of various stakeholders, including consumers, policymakers, and the industry.
An exciting element of the meeting was a talk with Martin Skaug, Director of Communication from the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC). The NSC shared valuable insights into global seafood trade, marketing strategies, and risk management. Their expertise will be instrumental in shaping how VeriFish communicates sustainability indicators, helping us refine our messaging and reach a wider audience more effectively.
The collaborative spirit throughout the meeting was truly inspiring. The diverse expertise of the team contributed to innovative ideas and solutions, all aimed at promoting responsible aquaculture and sustainable seafood consumption.
These discussions in Tromsø mark a significant step forward for the VeriFish project. By leveraging the knowledge of our partners and experts, we are well on our way to developing a robust sustainability indicator framework that will guide the seafood industry toward more informed and responsible practices. As we continue refining our tools and strategies, the insights gained from this meeting will be invaluable in shaping our efforts to promote sustainability in seafood production.
