VeriFish participated in Seafood Expo Global 2026 in Barcelona, one of the most important international meeting points for the seafood sector. Hosted at the stand of Eurofish International Organisation, the project engaged with a wide range of stakeholders from across the value chain, including producers, processors, retailers, researchers and policymakers.
The event provided a valuable opportunity to present the latest developments of the project and, more importantly, to gather direct feedback from a global audience.
Productive discussions across the seafood value chain
Throughout the three days, the VeriFish team held numerous conversations with stakeholders from Europe and beyond. These exchanges focused on how seafood sustainability is currently communicated and how tools like VeriFish can help bring greater clarity and structure to that process.
Particular attention was given to the VeriFish web application, which attracted significant interest from visitors. Many stakeholders were keen to understand how environmental, socio-economic and nutritional indicators can be integrated into a single framework and translated into practical, usable information.
A recurring question highlighted the level of interest in the tool: when will the app be publicly available?
This response underlines the demand for accessible, data-driven solutions that support informed decision-making in the seafood sector.

Media products driving engagement
Alongside the app, VeriFish media products played a key role in attracting attention and facilitating discussions.
The OverFished! card game proved particularly popular. Designed as an interactive and educational tool to explain the complexity of fisheries and sustainability, it quickly became a focal point at the stand. The level of interest exceeded expectations, with all physical copies distributed by the middle of the second day.
This strong engagement confirmed the value of using accessible formats to communicate complex sustainability concepts to diverse audiences.
For those who were unable to get a physical copy, the game remains available for download through the VeriFish website, ensuring continued accessibility and outreach.

From awareness to application
Participation in Seafood Expo Global demonstrated that stakeholders are not only interested in sustainability as a concept, but are actively looking for practical tools and clear frameworks that can be applied in real-world contexts.
The interest in both the VeriFish app and its communication materials reflects a broader shift in the sector: from general sustainability claims toward structured, evidence-based communication.
Looking ahead
The conversations held in Barcelona reinforced the relevance of the VeriFish approach and highlighted the importance of continuing engagement with stakeholders at all levels of the seafood value chain.
As the project moves forward, feedback gathered during the event will contribute to refining its tools and supporting their future uptake.
Seafood Expo Global 2026 confirmed one thing clearly: there is strong demand for solutions that make seafood sustainability understandable, transparent and usable. VeriFish is working to meet that demand.
