On February 19, 2025, members of the VeriFish team, represented by Nofima, participated in the Mr. GoodFish 3.0 Co-Creation Workshop in Tromsø, Norway. The event brought together key seafood industry stakeholders, including the Norwegian Seafood Council, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), Innovation Norway, and representatives from research institutions, retail, and food service industries.
The workshop was a unique opportunity to engage in collaborative discussions on sustainability gaps in the seafood value chain. Participants were divided into teams, each representing a diverse range of actors, to ensure an inclusive and practical exchange of ideas. Through interactive sessions, the teams worked together to identify challenges, opportunities, and actionable strategies for enhancing sustainable seafood consumption.

The Role of VeriFish in the Discussion
During the event, Nofima presented the VeriFish Indicator Framework, showcasing how a data-driven approach to sustainability indicators can help simplify communication, improve transparency, and empower stakeholders across the seafood value chain. By offering clear, verifiable metrics on environmental, social, and nutritional factors, the framework supports informed decision-making for both businesses and consumers.
The workshop sparked meaningful discussions on how different actors perceive sustainability challenges and the tools they need to navigate them. The insights gained from this session will help VeriFish refine its indicator framework and ensure it aligns with the real-world needs of seafood producers, retailers, and policymakers.

Strengthening Collaboration for a Sustainable Future
The co-creation format of the workshop proved to be particularly effective, as it fostered cross-sector dialogue and professional learning. Engaging with a broad spectrum of stakeholders allowed the VeriFish team to gain diverse perspectives on how sustainability communication can be improved and how best to support seafood actors in their transition toward responsible practices.
As VeriFish continues its work in 2025, these conversations will play a key role in shaping the project’s outputs, ensuring they are practical, impactful, and widely adopted. Events like this highlight the importance of collaborative innovation in building a more sustainable and transparent seafood industry.
