The first day of the VeriFish–FishEUTrust Final Event brought together project partners and stakeholders to focus on one of the project’s key outcomes: the CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) on communicating seafood sustainability using verifiable indicators.
During the sessions, participants worked collaboratively to review and agree on the CWA, examining both the technical content and the broader context in which these recommendations will be applied. Discussions addressed how sustainability information related to environmental performance, socio-economic conditions and nutritional value can be communicated in a way that is transparent, evidence-based and meaningful for different audiences.

The workshop also explored how the CWA can be effectively disseminated and adopted across the seafood value chain, from producers and processors to retailers, policymakers and consumer organisations. Particular attention was given to ensuring that the recommendations remain practical and aligned with real-world communication needs.
The CWA represents an important milestone for the VeriFish project. By establishing shared principles and approaches for the use of verifiable sustainability indicators, it contributes to clearer and more credible communication in fisheries and aquaculture.
The discussions on the first day set a strong foundation for the remainder of the event, where project partners and invited stakeholders will continue exploring how the VeriFish framework, tools and recommendations can support more transparent and informed seafood sustainability communication in Europe and beyond.
