On May 14, 2025, VeriFish participated in a high-level Market Seminar on Fisheries and Aquaculture in Vilnius, Lithuania. Organised by the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania in collaboration with Eurofish International Organisation, FAO-GLOBEFISH, and the International Ocean Institute, the seminar was a valuable platform for international experts and stakeholders to exchange insights on the future of sustainable seafood systems.

The event took place at the Ministry’s Fisheries Department and featured opening remarks from national representatives and Eurofish’s Marco Frederiksen. Key sessions addressed critical issues shaping the European and global seafood sectors, such as sustainability, market trends, energy transition, trade dynamics, digitalisation, and consumer behaviour.
Representing the VeriFish project, Ixai Salvo (Senior Project Manager at Eurofish) presented the project’s innovative indicator framework. He explained how the framework is being developed to provide verifiable, transparent data across environmental, social, and nutritional pillars, offering a common language to inform responsible production and consumption.

The presentation highlighted how VeriFish contributes to Mission Ocean objectives by:
- Promoting data-driven communication around sustainability
- Bridging the gap between science, industry, and consumers
- Supporting traceability and transparency in seafood supply chains
This contribution was part of a wider exchange that included presentations from FAO-GLOBEFISH, EUMOFA, and the International Ocean Institute, among others.
The seminar reaffirmed the importance of international collaboration and multi-stakeholder dialogue in fostering resilient, sustainable, and transparent seafood systems. VeriFish extends its thanks to the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania and event partners for the opportunity to contribute to this meaningful conversation.
