VeriFish featured by Euronews Ocean
VeriFish was featured in a Euronews Ocean documentary produced in partnership with the European Commission, exploring how digital tools can help consumers make more informed and sustainable seafood choices.
The report, “Scan before you buy: why two new apps aim to change seafood shopping”, looks at the growing gap between citizens’ willingness to choose sustainable seafood and the lack of clear, trustworthy information at the point of purchase. Alongside our sister project, MrGoodFish 3.0, VeriFish is presented as a concrete response to this challenge.
The documentary highlights the VeriFish approach to transparency: using QR codes on menus and labels to give access to verified information on sustainability, nutrition, provenance, and the companies behind seafood products. By making complex data understandable and accessible, VeriFish aims to strengthen consumer trust while creating incentives for responsible practices across the seafood value chain.
This feature recognises VeriFish’s contribution to the broader European effort to connect citizens, fishers, and markets through better information — helping make sustainable seafood the informed choice, not the expert one.
