IJmuiden, The Netherlands | 19–21 November 2025
The 3rd Catch Welfare Platform Conference brought together global experts, fishers, scientists, and innovators at Forteiland IJmuiden to discuss the future of wild-caught fish welfare. This year’s edition also marked an important milestone for the VeriFish project, which played an active role in both the scientific programme and stakeholder engagement activities.
🍽️ A Dedicated Space for Dialogue: The VeriFish Working Lunch

On Day 2 of the conference, VeriFish hosted a dedicated working lunch, bringing together key stakeholders from the seafood sector — including fishers, retailers, researchers, and sustainability experts — to discuss the role of structured indicators in communicating fish welfare and sustainability.
This closed session provided a unique opportunity to:
- Share feedback on the VeriFish Sustainability Indicator Framework
- Explore practical tools for transparent seafood communication
- Identify common challenges in aligning scientific data with real-world commercial needs
- Strengthen collaboration across sectors committed to responsible fishing practices
VeriFish also featured in the main programme with a presentation by Sara Pittonet Gaiarin (Trust-IT Services), who introduced the indicator framework as a science-based tool to support informed decision-making in the seafood industry.
The conversations that took place during the working lunch reinforced the importance of co-design, clarity, and comparability in the next generation of seafood sustainability tools — principles at the core of the VeriFish approach.
