VeriFish CEN Workshop Agreement Presentation Event

🧭 About the event:
On 24 June 2025, the VeriFish project hosted the presentation of the draft CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) at DG Byen, Copenhagen. The event marked the start of a European-level process to build consensus around a Good Practice Recommendation for communicating verifiable sustainability indicators in the seafood sector.
The VeriFish CWA proposes guidance for how to communicate seafood sustainability clearly, credibly, and consistently across Europe. It includes indicators related to:
Sustainability
Nutrition
Provenance
Biodiversity

The public session included:
Introduction to the VeriFish project and CWA objectives
Review of the draft CWA structure and indicator table
Discussion on how to frame messages for different audiences
Dialogue on issues such as affordability, labelling, quality vs sustainability, and legal compliance
Clarification of scope: includes wild-caught and farmed seafood, plants, freshwater species, and algae
Feedback on stakeholder roles, including restaurants, chefs, and small-scale sellers
The event confirmed strong engagement and constructive input, setting the stage for a robust and collaborative consensus process.
🛠️ What Happens Next?
The CWA is currently in the stakeholder feedback and consensus-building phase, with the final version expected in early 2026.
