📍 Valencia, Spain | 🗓️ 22–25 September 2025
This September, VeriFish joined over 3,000 delegates, researchers, industry leaders, and policy stakeholders at Aquaculture Europe 2025, one of the most prominent events on the European aquaculture calendar. Held in Valencia, this year’s edition focused on sustainability, innovation, and resilience in aquatic food production systems.
VeriFish was proud to participate through a shared stand coordinated by Eurofish International Organisation, showcasing the joint efforts of seven EU-funded projects working toward more sustainable aquaculture and seafood systems.
🔹 A Stand for Collaboration: Seven Projects, One Vision
At Booths #143–145, VeriFish joined forces with:
- FishEUTrust – Advancing trust, traceability and consumer engagement in seafood
- Mr.Goodfish 3.0 – Promoting responsible seafood consumption through awareness and education
- SAFE – Boosting circularity and sustainable innovation in freshwater aquaculture
- InnoAqua – Supporting innovative integrated aquaculture systems
- EUMOFA – The European Market Observatory for Fisheries and Aquaculture Products
- Baltic MUPPETS – Fostering multi-use platform development in the Baltic aquaculture space
Together, these projects represent a holistic vision of the future of aquaculture: data-driven, consumer-focused, environmentally responsible, and grounded in real-world collaboration.
📢 VeriFish at Centre Stage
Throughout the four-day event, the VeriFish team actively engaged with attendees, partners, and stakeholders to present our work on:
✅ The VeriFish Indicator Framework – a tool designed to communicate seafood sustainability based on nutritional, environmental, and socio-economic criteria
✅ The upcoming VeriFish mobile app, which will help consumers, retailers, and policymakers make informed seafood choices
✅ Our alignment with the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030” as a recognised Mission Charter Action
🖼️ Our poster presentation, titled “Standardising Seafood Sustainability Communication: A Multidimensional Indicator Approach”, drew interest from researchers and market players alike. Discussions focused on indicator usability, cross-project synergies, and how science-based seafood scoring can empower both the value chain and the final consumer.
🗣️ Networking, Feedback & Future Steps
Beyond the formal sessions, conversations at the VeriFish table proved to be one of the most valuable aspects of the conference. Visitors included researchers, small-scale producers, feed developers, digital traceability providers, and students — all eager to understand and contribute to VeriFish’s goals.
Highlights included:
- Discussions on integrating VeriFish indicators into certification systems and public labelling schemes
- New contacts from the Mediterranean aquaculture sector, who expressed interest in regional piloting
- Initial feedback on the user interface of the app prototype, helping guide the next iteration of development
👥 A Growing Community of Practice
The conference also provided an opportunity to expand VeriFish’s Community of Practice — an open network of professionals and stakeholders working to improve how seafood sustainability is measured, verified, and communicated.
We invited all engaged individuals and organisations to join us in building a tool that is not only scientifically robust but also socially relevant and operationally practical.
