As part of our ongoing commitment to making seafood sustainability transparent, traceable, and engaging, the VeriFish project has officially published two core deliverables under Work Package 3 (WP3):
- D3.2: Web App Requirements & Specification Document
- D3.3: Media Products Requirements & Specification Document
These deliverables mark a significant step forward in the project’s mission to empower consumers, producers, and retailers with verifiable information on sustainability in seafood.
📲 D3.2: A User-Friendly App to Support Informed Choices
The VeriFish Mobile App, now under development, will serve as an intuitive gateway to the underlying VeriFish Knowledge Base (KB). Designed with input from stakeholder workshops, the app translates complex datasets into an accessible interface tailored for a wide range of users—from seafood industry professionals to curious consumers.
The app will use existing GRSF QR codes as unique identifiers (UUIDs), allowing users to scan and access verified data on seafood provenance, sustainability indicators, food composition, and recipes. FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data will be drawn from trusted sources such as FishBase, EuroFIR, and GRSF. The document outlines the app’s system architecture, user interaction models, APIs, and content flow—ensuring it will be robust, scalable, and transparent.
🧩 D3.3: Engaging Educational Media for All Ages
Complementing the digital strategy, Deliverable D3.3 outlines the design of a series of interactive, print-friendly media products aimed at increasing awareness and engagement with sustainable seafood practices:
- Flashcards & Board Games: Fun and educational tools for children and adults to learn about ocean health and sustainable consumption.
- Maps & Calendars: Visual resources to highlight sustainability patterns, such as seasonality and local seafood availability.
- Educational Posters: Illustrated materials that inform about sustainability challenges and promote support for local seafood suppliers.
These resources are meant to be freely distributed among schools, community groups, seafood professionals, and consumers across Europe. Their development follows a co-creation process, aligning closely with stakeholder needs and pedagogical goals.
A Coherent, Multi-Platform Strategy
Together, the VeriFish mobile app and media products will serve as cornerstones of the project’s outreach strategy. By combining the power of data-driven transparency with user-friendly communication formats, VeriFish is building a toolkit that not only informs, but also inspires action.
These deliverables reflect months of collaborative work across the consortium, with input from communication experts, seafood scientists, designers, and digital developers. Their release demonstrates the project’s progress in meeting its objectives under WP3: raising awareness, improving communication, and making sustainability actionable.
Stay tuned as these tools move into production in the coming months—and help us build a more informed and responsible future for seafood.
